Strategies for Forming Students’ Moral Character

Abstract

This study was motivated by the decline in adolescents’ moral behavior, which is reflected in increasing bullying, decreasing respect toward teachers and parents, and the spread of impolite behavior influenced by social media and peer environments. This research aims to describe the strategies used in forming students’ moral character at Pesantren Pelajar Islam Nurul Burhan. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings revealed that the formation of students’ moral character was implemented through the concept of wadifah santri, including congregational prayers, reading the Qur’an, reciting shalawat, maintaining behavior in accordance with Islamic teachings, and practicing a clean lifestyle. These activities were implemented through habituation, role modeling, supervision, advice, and educational ta’zir. In addition, caregivers and musyrif played important roles as role models through the application of uswah hasanah. The continuous practice of religious activities contributed positively to the development of students’ spirituality, discipline, responsibility, and social awareness in their daily lives.
