This study discusses the use of Balinese slang as a linguistic dynamic in the Indonesian speech of young people. The intensive contact between Indonesian and Balinese has given rise to an urban slang variety (known as bahasa kodya), characterized by the use of vocabulary such as nak’e, kle, khe, mimih, nok, kali, and ci. These expressions are consciously and creatively employed in daily communication to emphasize meaning, create familiarity, and express emotions. This study aims to describe the forms of Balinese slang vocabulary, the contexts of its usage, and the socio-pragmatic functions underlying its use. The research employs a qualitative approach from a sociolinguistic perspective. The data were analyzed descriptively and interpretatively. The findings reveal that the use of Balinese slang is not merely a form of interference or linguistic deviation, but rather a linguistic practice that reflects the creativity, group solidarity, and social identity of Balinese youth. These findings confirm that the dynamics of youth language are strongly influenced by local factors and the social needs of its speakers.
