Abstract

Mathematics learning on plane geometry topics in elementary schools still faces various problems, particularly the low learning outcomes of students due to teacher-centered instruction and the limited connection between learning materials and contextual problems. This study aims to describe improvements in students’ learning outcomes in plane geometry through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. This study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach using Arikunto’s model, comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 22 fifth-grade students at Elementary School Islamic Integrated Cendekia Andalas in Padang City. Data were collected through observation, tests, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that implementing the Problem-Based Learning model improved both teacher and student activities during the learning process and increased students’ learning outcomes in plane geometry. Therefore, the Problem-Based Learning model proved to be effective in improving elementary school students’ conceptual understanding and mathematics learning outcomes.
