The Effectiveness of the Scientific Approach on Elementary School Students' Listening Skills

Abstract

The scientific approach, which includes the stages of observing, questioning, trying, reasoning, and communicating, is believed to be able to improve students' language skills, particularly in the aspect of listening. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of the scientific approach on the listening skills of elementary school students through a literature review. The method used is a literature study with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were obtained from various scientific sources such as journals, books, and relevant research reports from the period 2015-2025 through academic databases, including Google Scholar, DOAJ, and Sinta. The analysis was conducted systematically to identify research outcome trends, discovery patterns, and factors influencing the success of implementing the scientific approach in listening learning. The study results indicate that the scientific approach has a positive impact on students' listening skills, particularly in enhancing attention, comprehension of meaning, critical thinking abilities, and retention of oral information. In addition, the use of audio and audio-visual-based learning media also strengthens the effectiveness of the learning process. However, its implementation still faces obstacles, such as limited teacher competence, lack of media variation, and differences in students' initial abilities. Thus, the scientific approach is worth applying as an effective learning strategy to improve listening skills in elementary schools.
