The Application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) Model in Improving Mathematical Problem-Solving Skills in Elementary Schools

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in improving elementary school students’ mathematical problem-solving skills through a literature review. The method used in this research is a literature study by reviewing various scientific articles relevant to PBL and mathematical problem-solving skills in elementary education. The data were collected from various national journals and then analyzed descriptively and qualitatively to identify patterns and trends from previous studies. The findings show that the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model has a significant role in improving students’ mathematical problem-solving skills. PBL not only contributes to improving learning outcomes but also encourages students to think more systematically, actively, independently, and collaboratively in the learning process. In addition, the implementation of PBL also supports the development of higher-order thinking skills in solving contextual mathematical problems. Therefore, it can be concluded that the PBL model is an effective instructional approach for enhancing elementary school students’ mathematical problem-solving skills.
