Improving IPAS Learning Outcomes Through Cooperative Learning Model Using the Index Card Match Method

Abstract

This classroom action research was motivated by the low learning outcomes of fourth-grade students in Science and Social Studies (IPAS) learning, especially on the topic of Cultural Diversity and Local Wisdom at SDN 22 Lubuk Begalung. The learning process was still dominated by lecture methods, causing students to be passive and less motivated. This study aimed to improve students’ learning outcomes through the implementation of the Cooperative Learning model using the Index Card Match method. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of two cycles, namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The participants were 22 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through observation sheets, learning achievement tests, and documentation. The results indicated significant improvements in lesson planning, teacher and student activities, and learning outcomes. Lesson planning improved from 85.71% in Cycle I to 92.85% in Cycle II. Teacher activity increased from 85.71% to 96.42%, while student activity increased from 78.57% to 92.85%. Students’ attitude scores improved from 70.73 to 86.64, knowledge scores increased from 68.09 to 89.09 with 90.91% classical mastery, and skill scores improved from 74.23 to 88.25. The findings conclude that the Cooperative Learning model using the Index Card Match method effectively improves IPAS learning outcomes among fourth-grade elementary school students.
