Derivation and Abbreviation in Online News Kompas.Com February 2025 Edition (Morphological Study)

The purpose of this research is (1) to describe the types of Indonesian language derivations found in the online news of Kompas.com for the February 2025 edition and (2) to describe the types of Indonesian language abbreviations found in the online news of Kompas.com for the February 2025 edition. The data for this research consists of words containing derivations and abbreviations found in the Kompas.com online news portal. The data source for this research is news articles taken from the Kompas.com online news portal for the February 2025 edition. The method in this research is qualitative and descriptive in nature. The data collection techniques in this research are (1) reading technique, (2) documentation technique, (3) note-taking technique. The data analysis techniques in this research are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Based on the research results that have been conducted, there are 153 data points in the online news of Kompas.com for the February 2025 edition, divided into 59 derivational data points and 94 abbreviation data points. In the derivational data, 39 instances of zero derivation and 20 instances of reverse derivation were found. The most dominant type of derivation is zero derivation, with a total of 39 instances, and the most commonly used form is the combination affix, with 46 instances. In the abbreviation data, 55 instances of abbreviation, 30 instances of acronym, 1 instance of contraction, 4 instances of clipping, and 4 instances of initialism were found. Meanwhile, in the abbreviation category, the most dominant type is abbreviation, with 55 instances.
