Development of STEM-Based PEOP Learning Media to Explore the Human Digestive System in Grade V Elementary School Science Learning

Abstract

Science learning in elementary school has an important role in helping students understand natural phenomena, including the human digestive system. However, this material is often considered difficult because it is abstract and not directly observable, resulting in low student understanding. This study aims to develop a STEM-based learning media called PEOP (Papan Edukasi Organ Pencernaan) to improve students’ conceptual understanding. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate). The study was conducted at SD Negeri Klatak and involved 12 fifth-grade students as the research subjects. The data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and pretest-posttest assessments. The results showed that the developed media is valid based on expert validation (material 90% and media 88%), feasible based on teacher and student responses (above 89%), and effective in improving student understanding, as indicated by an increase in average scores from 60 (pretest) to 85 (posttest). It can be concluded that the PEOP learning media is valid, feasible, and effective in supporting science learning, particularly in understanding the human digestive system. This media also enhances student engagement and provides a more interactive learning experience.
